Frank Tieri's work is very uneven for me. He writes this collection of short stories based on how different villains are dealing with Norman Osborn's Dark Reign. The strongest entry is the opener with the original Spymaster obtaining the latest photo taken of Tony Stark and his parents. The reason? Osborn wants to destroy it. He's so petty; it's a great glimpse into Osborn's crazy head. Spymaster looks pretty sweet in his original gear too.
There are some fair stories, like a police procedural about the new Jack O Lantern (brother of the original killed in Civil War). I don't like that someone can just kill a kid to get super--powers from the devil. This is the over-the-top violence that Tieri occasionally delves into that I don't care for.
He introduces us to a new Enforcer who seems like an interesting character. I don't know much about the original, but I do know the new one looks like Eminem. There is always room in the Marvel U for new villains.
There isn't enough plot movement in the Attuma or Gamma Corps stories to really make a judgment call. These villains are just feeling out alliances and they don't actually do anything, making these the weakest chapters by far. There just isn't anything to these stories. I would have preferred seeing more of Spymaster or Jack O Lantern.
The art is strong throughout, with the Spymaster and Jack O Lantern stories standing out as the strongest. So overall, one good, two fair, and two poor stories.
